Alex graduated from the University of Cambridge in and worked in mixed practice, in Lancashire, for six years. She then completed a residency in anaesthesia and critical care at the Animal Health Trust, Newmarket, following which she was appointed lecturer and subsequently senior lecturer in veterinary anaesthesia at the University of Liverpool. Between to , she completed a PhD in equine obesity and applied nutrition, which complemented her interests in all aspects of anaesthesia and perioperative care. She has published over 60 scientific papers and maintains active in clinical research. Alex is fascinated by all aspects of pharmacology, physiology and pathophysiology and their impact on anaesthesia, pain recognition and control, and perioperative care, including prehabilitation and rehabilitation techniques.
