ARCILLA DE INNSMOUTH PDF

Arcilla de Innsmouth. Most of these stories are variations on that theme, and I like the creepy rural setting, so I enjoyed this book despite the redundancy. His mature work hinges not so much on the Yog-Sothoths and Nyarlathoteps as on a dark and yet deeply rationalistic view of the universe as a vast place containing beings with powers and plans beyond our ken. I read this years ago, and hated it.

The horror elements play upon the ideas of the unknown and the unknowable in a way that's cool if you're into Lovecraft, but also comes off as a bit obvious; the number of times that reference to immeasurable and unimaginable space, so as to overwhelm the reader with uncertainty, is a bit overplayed. The references to Alhazred -- Lovecraft's author of the Necronomicon -- are cool, and the story is enjoyable, but it does have a kind of predictable style to it.

Lovecraft is his own niche of the horror genre, yet I feel it is most accurate to say that this story is campy in a very Lovecraftian way -- almost as though he simply wrote the story on the fly recycling techniques he had deployed in his other works. It's a bizarre and brief tale founded on a singular clever plot point, which is one of the things that Lovecraft does best. The idea of an alchemist living for years in order to maintain the curse he had placed on a family also warrants some contemplation; this story has a revenge that seems to dwarf any other curse upon a house.

Simply is a Lovecraft book. Do i need to say more? Lovecraft has developed a cult following for his Cthulhu Mythos, a series of loosely interconnected fictions featuring a pantheon of human-nullifying entities, as well as the Necronomicon, a fictional grimoire of magical rites and forbidden lore.

His works were deeply pessimistic and cynical, challenging the values of the Enlightenment, Romanticism and Christianity. Lovecraft's protagonists usually achieve the mirror-opposite of traditional gnosis and mysticism by momentarily glimpsing the horror of ultimate reality.

Although Lovecraft's readership was limited during his life, his reputation has grown over the decades. He is now commonly regarded as one of the most influential horror writers of the 20th Century, exerting widespread and indirect influence, and frequently compared to Edgar Allan Poe.
