The ASTM A specification covers heat treated carbon steel plates for pressure vessel applications. Masteel UK Limited specialise in the supply of pressure vessel plates which are commonly required by the Oil, Gas and petrochemical industry. We offer material to the ASTM A specification in a number of sizes and thicknesses to suit your requirements. Our plates can be shipped from our own stockholding in the UK or directly from the mill itself.

As we are part of the mill rolling program we can ship plates to our customers to meet their deadlines on a global basis.

The steel can also be tested to your specific requirements. We also have own own steel processing plant which means that we can supply ASTM A steel profiles cut to your specific requirements using our CAD controlled multi—head flame cutters. The material is a normalised steel which is heat treated and as a consequence displays greater yield and tensile strength than the more standard ASTM A grades.

We also offer an in house profiling service where the material can be cut to the size or shape you require. Please note: the technical information above is for guidance only — for exact specifications please check with our Sales Team. ASTM A Class 2 steel is a higher yield and tensile strength material used in the fabrication of pressurised vessels and steel boilers.

The steel includes the alloying of carbon, manganese and silicon and is heat treated using the quenched and tempered method which gives the material its residual strength. We also offer steel cutting services including CAD based flame cutting to cut your steel into particular shapes.

The material under this specification is available in three classes. Class 1 steel is supplied in the normalised condition and the specification covers plates up to mm 4 inches in thickness. These supplementary requirements, there are seventeen of them, are designated numbers S1, S2, S3, and so on and cover things like ultrasonic testing S8, S11 or S12 depending on the type of ultrasonic test , charpy v-notch impact tests S5 , and product chemical analysis S2. As a matter of course, and in order to provide the best possible service to our customers, Brown McFarlane stocks ASME SA Class 1 and ASTM A Class 1 plates with numerous supplementary requirements included at the time of manufacture and all noted on the material test certificate supplied with each plate.
