Conquest of Nerath is a Dungeons and Dragons themed war board game published by Wizards of the Coast in The board game Conquest of Nerath is a lightweight war game similar to Nexus Ops , and Axis and Allies , but with a fantasy theme. Gameplay begins with the players controlling preset territories and armies, which is delineated on the board. Players take turns battling their army's opponents with the goal of achieving victory. To end the game one player must either conquer all enemy capital cities, which is unusual, or collect victory points which accumulate through the acquisition of territory and treasure.

I played two games the first night I had it, and by the end of it I realised that it was pretty broken in many ways. The main issue is that the game is designed to fit a narrative, and if you don't want to play the narrative which it shouts at you evil people overrunning the good ones who mount a HEROIC defence I changed the rules quite significantly, including hit points, hit chances, special abilities and the way dungeons work, and it's now a pretty decent turn-based strategy game.

It takes significantly longer to play, but, boy, is it intense. Friday, August 8, Fix This Game! The latter is something I've been eyeing for a while, as it resembles a deliberate retro throwback to the 80s-era Milton Bradley games, but the price was out of my range. The game was released in as part of a string of board game releases with tie-ins to the 4th edition RPG rules, and this board provided the fullest look at the default campaign setting map for 4e.

Perhaps permanently, now that the 4e setting is being unceremoniously orphaned. Each of them is roughly but not exactly balanced, creating a different strategic situation than the historical setup in Axis and Allies. In particular, there are no "punching bag" players like the USSR, and every nation has equal ability to implement both land and naval strategies. Labels: house rules , review.
